New Virtual Digital Picture Frame! http://briancody.org/nate brianrcody@gmail.com (Brian Cody) http://briancody.org/nate/rss60 Thu, Feb 16, 2012 22:20:00 EST NateWeb is happy to roll out a new feature, the virtual digital picture frame! It's like having a digital picture frame that runs right inside a browser window. So if you sit in front of a computer all day and have a little extra real estate on your screen that you aren't using (like I do), then you can fill that space with a selection of recent Nate photos! You can find a link to the new picture frame at the top of the pictures page. Use the suggestions page to tell me how you like it, and if there are any ways that I might improve it.

Also, followers of this feed may have noticed that I haven't updated it in a while. Since loading pictures and videos has become so easy from my phone, the idea of waiting until I'm at a computer so that I can also update the feed has proven to be less than compelling. I trust that the increased frequency of new content more than makes up for the lack of notification via the feed. From this point on, I will be transitioning this feed to communicate improvements to the interface of the site itself. Like a new picture frame feature, for example...

  • Performance is a lot snappier!

Sure, you can work around it well enough, but you need to know where the links are. It's just not obvious enough. So I've been hoping to find the time to do this for a while now, and it is finally here! NateWeb is introducing a picture viewing experience specifically tailored for the iPhone! Check it out by clicking on the "Mobile" link on the picture page. Eventually, I'm planning to make it the default on iPhones. Let me know how you like it!

  • Streamlined home page.
  • Improved navigation.

All in all, I hope that this new version will give both a better user experience and a scalable framework to which I can continue adding more content.

What that means is that I'll be able to deliver new content more regularly, so you get to see more Nate more often. The wave of the future, Dude. 100% electronic.

To celebrate the new infrastructure, I've uploaded a bunch of new content: lots of pictures and three new videos. Plus, I have more in my back pocket that will be appearing in the coming days. Keep your eyes peeled!

He's much more alert, so he's spending a lot more time with Mommy and Daddy. We took him on his first walk downtown and with the nice weather, he's getting lots of fresh air. And he received a surprise visit from Grandma and Grandpa! Although he slept through most of it, he did get to see them with his eyes open for the first time.

To commemorate these events, I started a new "April 2010" album of Nate pictures. I also added a new video of Nate getting some tummy time on Mommy in the living room.

It already looked good on most other browsers, but as many web developers know, IE is kind of the ugly duckling of the browser world. That wouldn't be such a big deal if it weren't still the most popular browser out there. In any event, the layout should look better now. Not perfect, but acceptable.

And for those of you who agree with Ilyse, fret not. I uploaded some new pictures and a cute new video, too.

Ilyse and I have been spending a fair amount of time discussing how we can share pictures and video with friends and family without comprimising little Nate's privacy too much. I tend to be a bit of a curmudgeon about online privacy (thus the no Facebook account), but I understand how much joy everybody finds in having even a little glimpse into Nate's life. And the response to the videos has been overwhelming! So we knew that we needed to do something to fill the demand. Well, I'm very happy to announce that we have a new videos page for sharing higher quality Nate videos. I hope this new page serves you well. As always, let me know if there is anything I can do to make your NateWeb experience better.
